Highway Heroes - Gary and Devery Jones

Gary and Devery Jones

Gary and Devery Jones have a life-long history in commercial trucking. Gary Jones’s late grandfather passed on his driving passion, leading Gary to pick up the family business in 1999 professionally. Both Gary and Devery Jones are active in their company’s day-to-day operations, SPB Trucking, along with several other family-owned businesses. With a bustling fleet of 11 trucks, Devery manages dispatch from the road while Gary drives. Being avid dog lovers, the Joneses chose to name their company after their dogs – Sweetie, Parker, Precious, and BB – who all love to join them on the road.

“It’s in my bones,” said Gary. “My entire life has been centered around truck driving and its culture. I couldn’t be more honored to represent RoadWorks Manufacturing at truck shows and events nationwide.”

In 2018, Gary and Devery competed on the show truck circuit with their project truck, a stunning 1995 Peterbilt 379 which they named “Excessive Behavior.” Naturally being overachievers, the couple chose to unveil “Excessive Behavior” for the first time at North America’s largest show, the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Kentucky, where they took home the award for “Best Pictured Truck.”

Excessive BehaviorLater in 2019, they upped the ante with a truck named “Excessive Behavior II,” paying homage to the original while pushing the limits visually. The second truck in their show lineup, Excessive Behavior II competed and won the Combination Class outright in the American Truck Show Circuit, making it a truly tough act to follow.

Excessive Behavior II was followed in 2020 by the unveiling of their distinctively orange and white, 1999 Peterbilt 379 truck named, “Not Daddy’s Money”. The 265” wheelbase truck was built in collaboration with RoadWorks, and includes many custom accessories made especially for this beauty. The long list of accessories includes, 8” Stove Pipe stacks with long drop elbows, custom Punched Grille Insert and Grille Bars, a 20” Stainless Steel Box End Bumper, and many other custom accessories.

It only takes a few short minutes spent with them to see that Gary and Devery Jones both love the life they have chosen and find it very rewarding. When asked, Gary said one of the best parts of being involved in truck driving and the show truck circuit is the opportunity to be able to offer sound advice to young aspiring drivers. Gary offers the following words of wisdom for drivers who want to start building their own truck for the first time. “Go slow. Don’t try to keep up with everyone else. It is okay to go at your own pace! It’s your truck, not theirs.”
